5S and MR&D

We began working on 5S in 1993.  We began with initial 5S training for all employees and the effort to achieve Level 3.  In 1994, 5S focals were identified, an Implementation Team was chartered, and several forums were held to review current activity and chart the next phase of 5S.  Since then, our 5S objective has been to achieve and sustain Level 4 throughout MR&D.  Toward that end, we have defined Level 4 specifically for MR&D; and established standards models, a reporting process, and a communication strategy.

These pages contain MR&D 5S site organization diagrams, policy information, a Lessons-Learned/ Best Practices page,  focal lists, an implementation checklist, a description of the reporting and feedback processes, a listing of the responsibilities of the various players, and more.  The attainment of Level 4 and the practiced discipline necessary for its maintenance are indispensable to the accomplishment of MR&D's mission.  The Steering Team hopes these Webpages will facilitate the achievement of a 5S system that is self-sustaining and reliable.
